I was invited to a vineyard today and wasn’t sure what to expect, especially for someone who doesn’t drink wine. It’s only when we turned into a dirt road and made our way to the entrance of the Deetlefs estate that I was reminded of a movie I saw many years ago called “A walk in the clouds”. The scenery was breathtaking, to say the least.
I had the privilege of meeting Kobus Deetlefs, who, when we looked out on acres of land, described how many generations before him have cultivated the land to what we see today. He talks to me about his late father’s philosophy about life and how life skills, in his father’s opinion, must be acquired first to succeed in business—the importance of history and the comprehension of how it assists with shaping a vision for the future. I stood in awe listening to stories that date back to the 16 and 1700s, and it’s almost impossible not to be intrigued!
As I stood on the grounds, I observed the banter of the farm workers, the waves and smiles. If you stand still and listen attentively, you’ll hear the sound of running water from the stream; in fact, all you hear is nature in harmony! Turhaan and I couldn’t stop ourselves from wanting to see more, listen more and understand more.
So as I was leisurely taking “a walk in the clouds”, Turhaan captured images of this majestic place to remind us of a simple truth: that every single piece of nature we saw today truly comes from GOD.
