“Decide what kind of life you really want… and then, say no to everything that isn’t that.”

During curfews and lockdowns, restrictions and regulations, a loud and clear vibration that the world is in peril, I decided to retreat, reflect, and then slowly move…

I wanted to learn new skills during 2020, there was no way I was going to write that year off like it never existed. And just like that a self-taught food stylist is born! Another creative path that I ventured into, as I consciously set my intentions, was to choose a creative life above a mundane one!

Someone once said: “Be brave enough to be bad at something new.” I recognized that I might not be as good as I’d like to be, and then armed myself with knowledge. Got informed and left no stone unturned in my journey to progress and ultimately evolve. I encourage you to make every possible effort, use every single source or resource available and learn.

I soon discovered that to get better at styling food, I would need the right tools to help me along. I started out with some of the more basic stuff like tweezers, brushes and spray bottles. It was only later on that I realised that this “food styling thing” is part creativity, part science! The only way I was going to learn about how to bring an array of shades and colours together harmoniously, was to get a colour palette and colour wheel. The @pantone colour palette for #foodstyling was a gift from Turhaan. I guess he sensed the frustration and sheer loss of will to push on with a photo shoot when the colours of the props, food and boards didn’t quite match. There were many (and I mean MANY) moments where I was ready to throw in the towel – but that would have been the easy way out!

Remember “the work wants to be made, and it wants to be made by you.” May your creative energy flow today and lead you to new beginnings ???? Stay true to yourself and choose everything that are you!
